Keith Aldridge, principal of Capital Bridging Finance, is to take part in the Devizes to Westminster International Canoe Marathon to raise funds for The Playbarn Project.
The marathon, which began in the mid 1940s, is one of the most demanding open-to-all endurance events, 125 miles by kayak or canoe from Devizes along the Kennet & Avon Canal to the River Thames and down to Westminster in the heart of London. Those entering the non-stop race will be in their boats for around 24 hours with no breaks.
Aldridge (pictured) has been training during the winter months, regularly getting out onto the water at 6am and has also given alcohol until after the event which starts on Good Friday and finishes on Easter Monday
All funds raised during the event will be donated to his chosen charity, The Playbarn Project, which helps children recover more quickly from the treatment for leukaemia. Their aim is to set up a unit with therapy rooms to aid rehabilitation through soft and interactive play.
Aldridge said: “It sounded like a great idea at the time and just as the DW race was founded, my involvement resulted from a challenge amongst mates in the pub one evening.
“That said, although I have experienced some harsh training sessions out on the water over recent months I am really looking forward to taking part and more importantly that first glass of wine after the race will be well earned and of course a very worthy cause will benefit from my efforts.”
