Accord help to secure Guinness world record

Staff at Accord Mortgages have worked to brew up a new Guinness World Records title to help Marie Curie.

667 colleagues at Yorkshire Building Society Group (of which Accord Mortgages is part) took part in the largest cream tea party in multiple venues.

The fundraising challenge was held on 25 June across the Society’s main office sites in Bradford, Leeds, Peterborough and Cheltenham to raise money for the Society’s Hour of Need campaign, which will enable Marie Curie Nurses to provide more vital support for people living with a terminal illness and their families across the UK.

The attempt was started in Leeds by Frances Quinn, winner of the Great British Bake Off.

Jill Evans, managing director of Accord Mortgages, said: “We are extremely proud to have set a new Guinness World Records title for such an amazing cause in Marie Curie. Through our Hour of Need campaign we are having a real impact in providing more nursing hours for terminally ill people and their families.

“We have raised £300,000 in our first year of the campaign through our colleagues and customers making a massive contribution, and I am sure they will continue to help us reach our half a million pound fundraising target by the end of 2016.”

Quinn added: “As someone who knows a thing or two about scones it was an honour to be asked to start off the attempt to set a new Guinness World Record for the largest cream tea party in aid of Marie Curie.

“It’s great to be involved in this exciting new fundraising challenge by the Society, and the money raised is really important as it means Marie Curie nurses can provide support to even more people in their hour of need.”

Every £20 raised in Yorkshire Building Society Group’s Hour of Need campaign will fund one hour of care. The Society is aiming to raise £500,000 by December 2016, which equates to funding an hour of care by a Marie Curie Nurse for every hour of the campaign.
