The government is being urged to abolish Stamp Duty by a property sector coalition.
According to the 1808 Coalition – named after the year the duty was first introduced on UK property sales – Stamp Duty should to be reformed because its ‘slab’ structure unfairly distorts the UK’s property market. It calls it “anachronistic”” and a “”tax on aspiration””.
