Computershare donates £5k to help those in financial hardship

£20,000 fund created in September last year

Computershare has donated a total of £5,000 to Turn2us and Citizens Advice Maidstone to fund projects supporting people experiencing financial hardship in the second round of funding from its Loan Services Charity Donation Fund.

Turn2us will receive £1,500 to fund three workshops for workers and volunteers to help them better assist people in poverty to apply for support, while Citizen’s Advice Maidstone will receive the remaining £3,500 which will allow them to run a series of appointments to support visually impaired or blind residents in Maidstone with complex matters relating to housing, personal finance and benefits.

Andrew Jones, CEO of Computershare Loan Services, said: “We’re delighted to be able to support such deserving charities and support their work through our Charity Donation Fund.

“By supporting Turn2us we’ll be able to help the charity’s workers and volunteers to improve the lives of those living in poverty across the country, by giving them the skills they need to better manage their finances.

“Citizen’s Advice Maidstone is another deserving charity; their project to support Maidstone’s residents who are blind or visually impaired to manage their finances has the potential to make a lasting difference.”

The third-party mortgage servicer announced the creation of the £20,000 fund to help prevent financial hardship and support those experiencing money problems in September last year, committing to donating up to £5,000 to good causes every quarter.

Turn2us is a national charity that assists people who are struggling financially to gain access to welfare benefits, charitable grants and other financial help.

Citizens Advice Maidstone is a registered charity which provides advice on a wide range of issues affecting the residents of Maidstone. Its team of trained experienced staff members, most of them volunteers, advise, assist and negotiate on behalf of all those seeking help to resolve their problems.

A committee of staff members representing every Computershare Loan Services office – Skipton, Crossflatts, Derry and Doxford – meets quarterly along with Craig Simmons from the Money Advice Service to review applications from charities and decide which applications best meet the award criteria.
