Friends Life will now offer customers the option to benefit from free Fracture Cover on new Protect+ policies incorporating cover for critical illness.

The promotion will run for a limited period only, but once a customer’s application has been accepted, the fracture cover will remain in place free of charge throughout the term of the policy.

Fracture Cover pays out a lump sum of up to £2,100 to the customer if they suffer one of a defined list of 18 fractures including comminuted, complicated, compound, depressed, greenstick, pathological and simple. Customers can claim for one fracture per year.

Friends Life paid out £123,000 to 125 customers last year – an average of £984 per claim.

Mark Anders, director of sales and marketing, said: “Fractures are one of the most common serious injuries so it makes sense for us to support our customers for this eventuality.

“Fractures can happen anywhere at any time, with reasons ranging from falls in the shower to sport and traffic accidents, so we are pleased to be giving our customers this valuable cover, free of charge.”

Advisers need to notify customers of the promotion during the application process, as they need to opt in to benefit from the offer of free cover. Applications for free fracture cover will be underwritten as normal.
