Leeds Building Society members have joined forces with the British Heart Foundation in the fight against heart disease and raised over £3,000.

The mutual’s members voted to donate £3,230 to the British Heart Foundation (BHF). This donation is the charitable incentive donation from the Society’s Annual General Meeting. Leeds Building Society donated 10p for every postal vote received and 20p for every internet vote. Members selected which partner charity they wanted to receive the donation from their vote.

“It’s fantastic that the members of Leeds Building Society have voted to support the BHF and our life saving and pioneering work,” said Sue Green, British Heart Foundation fundraising manager for West Yorkshire.

“We never forget how many people are counting on us to succeed. Support from stakeholders like Leeds Building Society’s members makes a big difference in raising the vital funds needed to help us continue with our life-saving work.”

Dr John Greenwood, senior lecturer and consultant cardiologist at Leeds University and Leeds General Infirmary, added: “Currently in Leeds the BHF are supporting many important clinical research projects. We are really grateful to their supporters, such as Leeds Building Society, for raising the funds to enable us to carry out this research which we hope will improve the way that patients are investigated for chest pains in the future.”
