Volunteers from Leeds Building Society’s head office spent a day at Meanwood Valley Urban Farm helping to get the site ready for the annual Summer Fayre and duck race.
Meanwood Valley Urban Farm is a 24 acre site that is not only a working farm with a wide variety of animals, but also a major centre in north Leeds for community and environmental work.
The 11 colleagues from the mutual’s strategy, commercial lending and legal teams took advantage of its volunteering scheme, which allows all Society employees a day’s paid leave annually to help a good cause of their choice.
“We spent the day helping to get the farm ready for the main event in its calendar – the annual fayre ensuring that the 500 plus visitors have a great experience,” said Joe Eddison, corporate planning manager.
“We did various gardening and maintenance tasks across the site from grass cutting, path clearing, weeding, painting and pruning overgrown nettles and plants.
“During the day we had a chance to look round the farm and see the animals which gave a great appreciation for the sterling community work the staff and regular volunteers do.
“All who attended had a good day and commented on how we were achieving something worthwhile.”
