Legal & General’s general insurance business has secured a five-year extension to the existing arrangement it has had with Newcastle Building Society over the past six years.

The new arrangement will mean that Legal & General will continue to offer its general insurance (GI) products, which includes Home Insurance Choices, Extra and Essentials buildings and contents insurance cover, available in branches and online and now also through the Newcastle Direct call centre operation, until 31 December 2017.

The new arrangement will see increased focus on improving customer retention and exploring the use of new media to help in generating new business and with customer support.

“The provision of a consistent and reliable GI proposition is important to our customers and complements our core strategy and.in conjunction with Legal & General our aim is to improve our customer proposition even further.”

Mark Holweger, broker, intermediary and affinity director for Legal & General’s general insurance business, said: “Our relationship with Newcastle Building Society is a great example of how our aim to provide an outstanding service and proposition has helped to build this valued relationship with our partner. Over the last six years we have consistently demonstrated the quality of our operation and experience as their house insurance ‘expert’ partner.

“We believe it’s so important to provide products that are relevant, affordable and meet the needs of our customers. So it’s fantastic that we will be able to continue to build on the valued partnership we have with them and their customers to further enhance the proposition we provide.
