Skipton staff smash Alzheimer’s Society fundraising target

This summer Skipton Building Society colleagues set a target to raise £50,000 for Alzheimer’s Society and Alzheimer’s Scotland in a grand nine day fundraising event just in time for World Alzheimer’s day.

The mutual has now revealed that total raised was £72,769.71.

Skipton colleagues aimed to raise the large sum by carrying out various physical challenges to meet 2,332 miles, – the total mileage between every single Skipton branch across the UK. Colleagues took part in memory walks, sky dives, static bike challenges, kayaking, triathlons as well as traditional tombolas, free prize draws, bake sales and coffee mornings across the Skipton network. Each of the nine days of fundraising featured new events and challenges for colleagues and the community to get involved in.

Paul Fenn, director of branch distribution and Ian Moore, director of specialist lending at the Skipton Building Society visited all of the society’s 87 branches and matched the 2,332 miles on their motorbikes over the nine days.

Fenn said: “Skipton is dedicated to supporting our charity partners at Alzheimer’s Society and Alzheimer’s Scotland and we wanted to do something really iconic to help raise the vital funding for the charities. We wanted this ‘something’ to involve all of our employees across the UK and reach this incredible goal as a team.

“Together we have made a massive achievement surpassing our original target and raising the £72,769.71. None of this would have been possible without our colleagues or our generous customers and communities who all got involved.”

Rosie Mellor-Silvester, senior regional corporate partnership executive, said: “I just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone at Skipton Building Society for everything they have done to support Miles for Memories. This event has been a huge undertaking, and it’s a true credit to the organisation to see everyone pull together to make it such a success.

“It’s been an absolute joy to work with Skipton on Miles for Memories and to see it exceed all expectations has just been the cherry on top. The funds raised are incredible, and the engagement with the event across the organisation has been such a fantastic achievement.

It is only through events like this, and the support of dedicated partners, like Skipton, that we are able to reach and care for those living with dementia, their family and friends, so thank you once again for the continued support.”
