Spicerhaart Part Exchange & Assisted Move has secured a contract with Morrish Builders, a developer involved in the creation of the Poundbury development, with its close links to Prince Charles.

Poundbury is a sustainable development of approximately 1,700 homes on the outskirts of Dorchester in Dorset. It has been built on land owned by the Duchy of Cornwall to reflect HRH Prince of Wales’ vision to create a traditional, mixed-use, sustainable development with a strong sense of community.

The development has been both praised and criticised. The Guardian‘s Oliver Wainwright, the paper’s architecture and design critic, has said in the past: “Poundbury, the Prince of Wales’s traditionalist village in Dorset, has long been mocked as a feudal Disneyland. But a growing and diverse community suggests it’s getting a lot of things right.”

Morrish Builders – a third-generation family business based in nearby Poole – is one of just three local placemaking developers that have worked on the internationally acclaimed development.

The Morrish family has been involved in construction since 1954 when Fred Cummings and Les Morrish formed Cummings and Morrish Limited. Then in 1982, Les formed Morrish Builders with his sons Steven and David with a focus on heritage homes, using local craftsman and materials to create quality homes based on traditional architectural principles.

Morrish began working on Poundbury back in 1997 and Jo Greaves – corporate communications and Morrish family member – says that, as with all its projects, Morrish Builders has placed community at the heart of the development.

“Poundbury is a unique project and it is amazing to have been involved in it for so long, watching it grow to the bustling community it is today,” said Greaves.

“We are frequently releasing new homes at Poundbury and it is such a sought-after location that we are never short of interest. We appreciate moving can be stressful so we want to make it as easy and quick as possible for customers to move into their new home. So, we have decided to bring in Spicerhaart Part-Exchange, another way of us assisting our customers with the buying process.”

Neil Knight, managing director at Spicerhaart Part-Exchange and Assisted Move, added: “Poundbury is a fantastic development so it is no wonder that so many people are keen to buy a home there. They will now be able to put in an offer safe in the knowledge that they will be able to sell their current home quickly and stress-free through us.”
