The National Landlords Association (NLA) is offering advice to landlords and tenants during Energy Saving Week to make rental properties more energy efficient in the lead up to winter.
The Energy Saving Trust’s annual campaign, which runs from 25 to 31 October, encourages everyone in the UK to save energy and reduce their carbon emissions.
The NLA advises landlords and tenants to install energy-saving light bulbs, which use up to 80% less power and last longer than conventional bulbs.
Loft insulation and cavity wall and floor insulation should be checked that they work and are fitted to minimum standards.
Lagging to hot water pipes and tanks can significantly reduce heat loss, help reduce mould from condensation and stops pipes from freezing.
Also, drafts can cause heat loss of up to 20%. This can be prevented by filling gaps between floorboards and skirting boards and draught proofing doors and windows.
