Staff at the Leeds Building Society branches in the South West have raised more than £1,500 for a charity which cares for brain-injured children.
The team of 11 completed a trek up Pen-Y-Fan mountain in Brecon, Wales within three hours, and raised £1,190. Combined with matched funding of £400 from the Society, the total donated to Kyle’s Goal was £1,590.
These funds will go towards creating a rehabilitation centre to provide specialist support and care for children and young adults across the UK with brain injuries.
The walkers were inspired to tackle their challenge by Kyle Beere, the stepson of the Society’s Swansea branch manager David Owen.
Beere was 12 years old when he suffered a brain haemorrhage caused by a rare condition called Arteriovenous Malformations (AVM). He survived but facilities for his rehabilitation, and for children like him, were very limited.
Richard Neal, Leeds Building Society’s regional manager in the south west said: “We are very pleased to have successfully completed this challenge, and delighted to have raised £1,590 for Kyle’s Goal.
“It was hard work but very rewarding, and all in aid of a terrific cause with a great team spirit throughout.”
