Leeds Building Society has raised £830 for a children’s orphanage in Ghana via a special charity day held at its head office.
The funds were raised through a tombola, raffle, hair dying and leg waxing. The final amount raised significantly exceeded the initial target of £350.
Hannah Rebecchi, who works in the Society’s customer services department, is currently volunteering at Mampong Babies Home. This orphanage cares for babies and young children that have either lost parents or where families cannot keep the child and need the support of the orphanage. It has limited funds and equipment.
Kevin Mowles, head of customer services, said: “We were hoping to raise £350 for Hannah to buy bunk beds for the children in the orphanage. With the help and generosity of our staff we managed to raise £830. This is fantastic and Hannah has told us she is overwhelmed by the response
